'A well-developed sense of humor is the pole that adds balance to your steps as you walk the tightrope of life.' (William Arthur Ward)

People always admire those who can tell a joke.

Have you ever wondered why?

Life is full of struggle and conflicts and people love being around those who are the life of a party and can make them forget their problems even if for a while.

Laugh and the World Will Laugh with You.

In a hope to enjoy anecdotes, funny incidents, witty point of views and other humorous trivia, people look forward to meet and spend time with those who have a funny side to their personality.

Therefore, humor is one of the most valuable assets you can have not just to amuse others but also to keep yourself happy and healthy!

Laughter is the Best Medicine

The importance of humor in our life is not limited to just improving one's mood.

A good sense of humor relieves stress, improves relationships, helps you cope with pain, strengthens your immune system, protects your heart.

It promotes positive thinking, enriches your personality and creativity, and improves your ability to solve problems.

Most importantly, it brings laughter and happiness into your life and of those around you.

Humor is Free, Fun and Easy to Use!

Humor is one of the most essential things in everyday life, mainly because it is only through humor that we can really observe and appreciate the beautiful things in life.

Go back in time and think about the people who have made you happy, think about your cherished memories with them and the good times you had together.

Most of the times, your memories would involve laughter.

A good sense of humor is the ability to laugh at yourself and not at others.

A very good and easy way to develop a great sense of humor is to learn to see humor in little things that happen in everyday's life.

Developing a sense of humor takes continuous practice and does not have to be an uphill task, as generally perceived.

Comedians crack jokes spontaneously!

They do it with great ease because they have perfected the art over the years through continuous practice.

1. Enjoy Humorous Company

Look out for people who possess a good sense of humor and try to spend time in their company.

It would allow you to observe, learn and pick up tricks on how they do it and you can incorporate their tricks with yours over time.

2. Make Laughing a Habit

An interesting exercise to start your day is to laugh the moment you wake up.

It would start off forced but once you learn to laugh you will find things to laugh about.

People at home may think you have lost it but eventually they are sure to join in because who does not want to laugh?

3. Find Something Funny in Everything

Make your own funny stories about things that happen around you and consciously observe the funny aspect of everything.

4. Try to Find out What Other People Consider Funny

Make a list of topics that appeal to a large number of people and further explore these topics.

5. Watch Funny Movies and Shows

Comic sketches, movies, shows, stand-ups which have humor content in them would be very helpful to you.

Sometimes you may not understand the joke right away. Watch it again.

If you still don't get it, don't feel shy to ask your loved ones to explain.

Once you get the hang of humor, there will come a time when you will be explaining jokes to others. Don't lose hope!

6. Try Seeing the Funny Side of Difficult and Embarrassing Situations

This helps in alleviating the feeling of unhappiness and fear.

7. Write Funny Captions

Sort through your family photographs and write one-liners or humorous captions.

8. Include Your Family in the Process

Every night at dinner make your family members share a funny moment or even an embarrassing moment that occurred during the day.

In the process of developing your humor skills make sure you don't hurt anybody's feelings.

Humor can influence life in a positive way and it certainly makes people want to be around you.

Learn to develop your humor skills using the above mentioned tips and you are sure to succeed!

Great hub. Well put together. It reminds me of the inspiring life of Norman Cousins who used laughter to cure his cancer. So there is living proof it works.

Yes, that's true.

Even with a little bit of sense of humor which in terms encourages positive thinking one's tasks seem to be simpler and more enjoyable :-)

Katrine, I think humor is very important also, I use it in awkward situations, or when other people are just to serious and sometimes just to break the ice. I love to use it in my poetry. When it is raining I use dry humor

I love these ideas. We all need more laughter, that's for sure! Fantastic hub. I've heard of people doing laughter yoga. Seems like it'd be uncomfortable at first, but a great way to make laughter a habit (as you recommended!).

Voted up, useful, & funny! =D

Veronica, yes! I know of a local 'Laughter Yoga' group. Every morning, in the park behind my house I can see them standing in a circle, with hands up towards the sky and laughing..it's so hilarious. Must really help :-)

"...cry and you cry alone." Even younger children don't have much use for "cry babies." I am glad you included two comments like your "laugh at yourself and not at others" because I think that laughing at others is not a laughing matter, and can't even be good for the person who is trying to be a "jokester." Fine article, one of your many! Voted up and awesome. I think you may well have brought more laughter into the world!
