'Any man who reads too much and uses his brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking.' (Albert Einstein)

Your brain is an amazing computing device and a fast processor, able to store and remember more information than you could ever use in your entire lifetime.

Almost everything you do on a day-to-day basis is a matter of memory.

The more something is part of your life, the more it is part of your memory and the better you remember it.

Most of us forget simple things among the numerous activities of our daily lives and tend to ignore it.

But you may get to the point when you feel your memory is getting worse, and decide to look for ways of improving it.

Take a look at these fantastic and really simple to follow steps to help you increase your memory power.

Put them to daily use and see the benefits for yourself.

Increase Your Memory Power By Engaging Your Brain In 'Intriguing Activities'

For centuries it was presumed that the human brain becomes unchangeable on reaching adulthood but many scientific experiments have revealed the fact that the human brain can be altered with enhanced engagement of activity.

This unique concept is termed as 'neuroplasticity'.

You can create fresh neural pathways of communication with the brain by engaging it more.

This in essence results in an increase of your memory power.

Try to do activities that require creative thinking. For example, writing poems or remembering some classic poems by heart do require a lot of engagement of the brain.

You can also play games like chess or solving a crossword puzzle a few times a week. All these are great fun ways of helping you improve your memory.

Improve Your Brain Power By Learning To Meditate

Meditation helps your mind and body to relax.

Try to practice Meditation every day for at least a few minutes, preferably before going to bed.

Concentrate on your breathing and don’t let your mind wonder.

Regular practising of meditation will help to sharpen your focus and memory.

Put Your Mind Into The ‘Happiness Mode’

It is a well known fact that when you are happy and cheerful your brain performs much better with enhanced memory power.

One sure way of achieving this is by having constructive and meaningful social relationships.

So spend some quality time every day with your family and friends, socialize in new circles, laugh over light matters, share emotions among yourselves and be happy.

It will not only keep you stress-free but will also keep your brain stimulated and active, thus increasing your brain performance.

Sleep Your Way To a Stronger Memory

Sleep deprivation is one of the major causes of under-performance of a human brain.

A research has shown that long-term sleeping problems hinder the development of a brain and can even damage it.

Therefore it is very important that you get an adequate sleep.

One of the major causes of sleep deprivation is irregular timing of sleep.

Try to make a fixed time for bed, avoid watching TV before going to bed or having a cup of tea or coffee, and do meditation to relax your tensed muscles instead.

A good night sleep will make your memory perform much better.

Exercising Your Way To A Healthier Brain

A gentle physical exercise is beneficial not only to your body but greatly to your brain too, yet few people know of this fact.

Physical exercise increases the amount of oxygen to your brain and thereby reducing brain cell damage and enhancing your memory.

Increase Your Mental Agility By Eating The Right Foods

  • Choose wholegrain food such as cereals, wheatbran, wholewheat pasta and bread.
  • Enjoy oily fish – they contain essential omega-3 fatty acids as well as fish oil, walnut oil and linseeds, which are crucial to the health of your nervous system. Low levels have been linked to a higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease and memory loss.
  • There is good evidence to suggest that antioxidants found in tomatoes could help protect against the radical damage to cells which occurs in the development of dementia, particularly Alzheimer's.
  • Other excellent foods to try to boost your memory are broccoli, nuts, sage, pumpkin seeds, blackcurrants and blueberries.

Thanks for this great hub. I wish you MUCH success on HubPages. And hurry up with MORE hubs. Im sincere in saying that I invite you to check my hubs if you need a good laugh. A great hub for those of us who need to improve our memorization skill. It makes sense that we must have proper diets, sleep and exercise and I agree with the meditation activity. Meditation helps us focus and build inner strength helping us clear our minds. Thus, our brain is able to retain and pull information for use.
